To the Editor:

Recently, state Rep. James Summers, R-Nashua, lent his support to the latest legislative attack on our cornerstone clean energy program, known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
RGGI is a successful program that invests in critical energy efficiency improvements that save Granite Staters on their utility bills, keep energy dollars in our state and create local jobs.

Unfortunately, some in the Statehouse – including our very own Jim Summers – have supported legislation to roll back this successful program.
With a grant from RGGI, Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield made heating upgrades that have cut its oil use by 17,000 gallons a year. Using a local renewable energy source, they save money on their energy bills and give local residents work.

After the House vote, it is more important than ever that our state senators stand strong to ensure a vibrant local economy and protect our state’s environment, not reverse years of work moving New Hampshire toward energy independence, job creation and a better environment.
